John M. Collard, Chairman

John M. Collard is chairman of Strategic Management Partners, Inc., an Annapolis, MD-based turnaround management firm specializing in distressed & troubled companies, private equity advisory, transition into new markets, defense conversion, and M&A. He is an expert in interim executive CEO leadership, corporate renewal governance, strategy formulation, asset recovery, and equity investing in underperforming distressed troubled companies. He has over 35 years operating experience in rapid growth, transition and turnaround environments; can account for new business totaling over $670mil systems integration plus $250mil commercial; asset recovery of $85mil; participated in over 40 transactions (acquire, divest, roll-up, IPO) worth $780mil; and has been exposed to private equity investing management through co-raising and co-managing an $80mil private equity fund.

John has strong operational leadership, strategic planning, financial, sales and marketing acumen developed building organizations in large and small companies, including as President of public & private middle-market companies providing solutions to Commercial, Federal, International, and Privatization market segments. Enterprises range from start-up to $100+mil. He has had unique success repositioning underperforming firms, identifying strategic business initiatives, and dealing with issues. He served in senior executive positions at Network Technologies Group, Inc., Xcellent Ventures, LLC, Cyber Dyne Computer Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Delta Data, Computer Sciences Corp, Trans Union, Sowers Printing, RJO Enterprises, and numerous other private enterprises in confidential engagements. He has been a board member and advisor of public and privately held companies in repositioning or turnaround situations, and private equity investment funds.

John was inducted into the Turnaround Management, Restructuring, Distressed Investing Industry Hall of Fame. He is Past Chairman of the Board of the Turnaround Management Association. He is a Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP). He and SMP have twice been named among the Top 12 Outstanding Turnaround Management Firms by Turnarounds & Workouts Magazine. SMP was honored with the Turnaround Atlas Award for Turnaround Consulting Firm of the Year (Boutique) by Global M&A Network. SMP received the Maryland Small Business of the Year Award and the Governor's Citation as a special tribute to honor accomplishments from Governor Martin O'Malley, The State of Maryland.
